Croatian Football Federation, founded on June 13th, 1912, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012.

The closing ceremony of the 100th anniversary celebration was held in the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, and among the attendants were many distinguished names, from the Croatian and world football, as well as the Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanović.

"The Croatian Football Federation is one very active and lively centenarian. Numerous name of Croatian footballers still echo throughout the football community, and in Croatia, football has preceded the foundation of state institutions and has become the guardian of national identity. It plays a major role in creating the country's image", highlighted Michel Platini, the President of European Football Federation.

Davor Šuker, who replaced Vlatko Marković at the helm of the Croatian Football Federation just half a year earlier, also said a couple of words.

"Football brings people together, regardless of gender, race, religion or political views. FIFA therefore has more members than United Nations, and football requires responsibility. The chequered jersey of Croatia is a symbol of our unity, and it is recognized in the whole world. Although it will not be easy, Croatian football, with support from FIFA and UEFA, must come closer to the European standards", emphasized Šuker.

The ceremony was also attended by the leading figure of the world football, the President of FIFA, Joseph Blatter.

"I wish a happy birthday to Croatian football, and it is an honour to be here. I admire the Croatian Football Federation and the famous Croatian players througout history. Implant the values of football - discipline, respect and fair-play - into society and enjoy football and life", he said.

The movie that covered the period between 1885, the first appearance of football in Croatia, until today, was also shown during the ceremony.

Before the ceremony in the Croatian National Theatre, the Croatian President Ivo Josipović met Sepp Blatter and FIFA representatives. After the ceremony, dinner was served.

The 100th anniversary of the Croatian Football Federation was officially celebrated on July 13th as well, during the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, with Croatia being among the participants. The Federation representatives and the players remembered the day when Milovan Zoričić was elected as the president of the football section within Croatian Sports Federation.

As a part of 100th anniversary celebration, a friendly match with Switzerland was played on August 14th, at Poljud Stadium in Split.
