Croatia veteran striker Davor Vugrinec, top goalscorer in history of Croatian First Division, decided to retire from football.

His final match was celebrated in the penultimate league round, when his Slaven Belupo hosted Zadar.

During his rich club career, Vugrinec managed to become the top goalscorer of Croatian First Division with 146 league goals to his name.

Starting his career at Varteks Varaždin, he went abroad to play for Turkish giants Trabzonspor, and later moved to Italy, to Lecce, Atalanta and Catania. Upon return to Croatia, he was scoring for Rijeka, Dinamo, Zagreb, once again Varteks and finally from 2012 for Slaven Belupo.

At the farewell ceremony in Koprivnica, he received commemorative gifts and deserved applause for his longlasting efficiency.

Davor Vugrinec made his international debut for Croatia in 1996. He was capped 28 times, scoring on seven occasions against Malta, Egypt, Austria, Latvia, San Marino and Republic of Ireland. Vugrinec said goodbye to national team squad in 2006, after the friendly tournament against Hong Kong and South Korea.

The highlight of his Croatia career was without a doubt the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He made two appearances, against Italy and Ecuador.
