Villarreal won the first leg 1:0, but at Anfield the Reds responded with goal by Soriano (own goal), Sturridge, and Lallana.

In the Basel final on 18 May, Liverpool will face title holders Sevilla, who defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in the return leg 3:1, following a 2:2 draw in Ukraine.
Eduardo Alves da Silva scored the only Shakhtar goal in Seville, at the end of the first half, and was substituted six minutes from time. Croatia and Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna played the entire match.
