This year, on 30 August - at the Champions League group stage draw - UEFA will present awards for the best UCL and UEL individuals in the previous season.
Luka Modrić, the current Champions League winner with Real Madrid, was awarded last year as the best midfielder of the competition, and is among the three nominees this year as well, alongside teammate Toni Kroos and Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City. Modrić has won four Champions League titles in total, three in a row.
Ivan Rakitić of Barcelona was voted at No. 7 among the best Champions League midfielders, while Dejan Lovren of Liverpool was voted at No. 5 among the best Champions League defenders. Lovren played in the Kyiv final against Real Madrid.
