Only three years have passed since Sijede vrijede Association organised the first walking football tournament in Croatia, held in Zagreb on 8 October 2022 – at that time a completely new and little-known form of the game.
Thanks to continuous effort, commitment, and dedicated promotion, the popularity of walking football has steadily increased. A new milestone in its development is the launch of the First Zagreb Walking Football League Championship – the first official walking football league in Croatia. Over the next two years, several additional regional leagues are planned to be established across the country.
Participants in this league are among the oldest active football players in Croatia (aged 60+), once again proving that football truly is a game for everyone, regardless of age – as UEFA consistently promotes. Walking football encourages physical activity, social connection, and mental well-being, demonstrating how sport can significantly contribute to the quality of life in later years.
